I’ve seen my doctor numerous times and he has no idea what is going on with me. He put me on Provera to get me flowing and then to start the birth control pill to regulate me. I never started my period with these medications. I know I’m not pregnant. I had my tubes tied 3 years ago after my 3rd child. And we’ve done pregnacy tests. Any ideas what is going on or what my next step should be? Thanks

More and more women are seeking natural alternative treatments for symptoms of menopause, for a variety of reasons. Perhaps the most compelling reason for many is the association between conventional hormone replacement therapy and a number of serious health risks, including an increased risk of breast cancer and blood clots, although the link has by no means been proven, and the issue is currently the subject of serious debate among women’s health experts. Many women have experienced unpleasant side effects resulting from conventional HRT, including nausea, headaches and vaginal bleeding. Many women simply feel apprehensive at the thought of taking drugs which have been manufactured synthetically.

The whole notion of returning to old fashioned herbal treatments and folk remedies has a certain comforting, romantic appeal. Some of the herbal medicines which are being rediscovered have been used to treat a range of ailments for literally thousands of years. There is a commonly held belief that medicines derived from natural sources are necessarily free from the risk of negative side effects, harmful interactions and allergic reactions. This is simply not true. Whatever kind of medication you choose to take, it’s essential that you fully understand how it works, what dosage level is appropriate for you, and what objective research has been done on its effectiveness and its potential hazards. Your doctor is the best person to provide you with professional, individual advice and attention. Information you find online and in women’s health publications is a useful supplement to your doctor’s advice, and it’s wise to read as widely as you can to get an overall picture of the issues. Your health is the most important thing you have, and while you are free to make your own choices about treating menopause symptoms, it’s vital that you make these choices with your eyes open.

Most experts believe that all of the common symptoms of menopause are caused by the dramatic decline and fluctuations in the body’s levels of estrogen and to some extent progesterone, and the imbalance between them. Approaches to alleviating symptoms generally focus around restoring these hormone levels. Natural treatments are typically made from extracts of plants containing substances which are very similar to the estrogen and/or progesterone produced by the ovaries. The effectiveness of these treatments relies on the assumption that these phytoestrogens and plant progesterones have a similar effect in the body to the body’s own natural hormones. Some herbal treatments work by stimulating glands to produce natural hormones more effectively, rather than restoring the hormones artificially.

Another approach is to treat each symptom individually. There is a range of natural treatments which focus specifically on alleviating common symptoms such as hot flashes, depression, libido problems, vaginal dryness and fatigue.

Estrogen treatments.

Soy

By far the richest source of phytoestrogens (sometimes called “isoflavones”) is soybeans, and foods made from soy extracts. Soy can be consumed in the form of tofu, soy cheese, meat substitute products such as soy burgers, breads and muffins made with soy flour, and soy drinks, sometimes known as “soy milk”. Some studies have shown that consuming soy beverages or breads made with soy flour twice daily can reduce the severity or the number of hot flashes, but results have been inconclusive and inconsistent. Soy powders and pills contain much higher levels of phytoestrogens than soy foods, and may have a more significant effect in alleviating menopause symptoms than soy foods, but little is known about the potential hazards. Consuming soy extracts and soy foods may have a range of other health benefits, including reducing the risk of osteoporosis, cancer and heart disease, and lowering cholesterol. Some studies suggest that phytoestrogens may actually help to reduce the risk of breast cancer by blocking the overproduction of natural estrogen in the body.

Herbs containing phytoestrogens

Red clover has been used in Asia for thousands of years to treat skin conditions, asthma, bronchitis, kidney stones, joint disorders and breast inflammation. It is thought to work by improving circulation and stimulating urine and mucous production, or “purifying the blood”. Red clover has been recently discovered to contain high levels of phytoestrogens, and its usefulness in the treatment of menopause symptoms is being investigated. Some studies have shown the herb to be very effective in reducing hot flashes and improving bone density and strength, while others have been inconclusive.

Dong Quai is an important herb used in Chinese medicine, and has been used to treat PMS, menstrual irregularities and menopause symptoms for thousands of years, although its effectiveness has yet to be clinically verified by Western health practitioners. It is also believed to dilate blood vessels, and is used to treat high blood pressure and circulatory problems.

Black Cohosh

Black cohosh is commonly believed to contain phytoestrogens, although clinical studies to confirm this have been far from conclusive. It is a perennial plant native to North America, and is also known as black snakeroot, bugbane, rattleroot and macrotys. The plant has a long history of usefulness as a medicinal treatment, first by Native American people and more recently by alternative health practitioners, and has been used to treat a range of gynecological ailments including menopause symptoms, infertility, inflammation of the uterus and ovaries, and to induce lactation, bring on menstruation, and alleviate labor pains. It has also been used to treat rheumatism, fever, coughs and colds, hives and backache. Some studies have shown that taking pills made from black cohosh extract is very helpful in providing short term relief from a range of menopause symptoms including hot flashes, depression, mood swings and anxiety. However, little is known about the effects of taking the treatment in the long term, and some negative side effects have been reported, including headaches, stomach and gastric discomfort and weight gain.

Maca

Peruvian Maca root is believed to work by stimulating glands in the body to produce their own estrogen and testosterone. Maca has been cultivated in the Andes region for perhaps thousands of years, and has been used as a treatment to increase energy, enhance libido and increase fertility. Maca root is claimed to provide a range of benefits, including alleviating PMS symptoms, reducing depression and stress, increasing athletic ability and creating a general sense of well being. It is also claimed to be effective in treating a wide range of menopausal symptoms, including mood swings, depression, irritability, anxiety, fatigue, hot flashes, reduced libido, sleep disturbances and breast tenderness. Objective clinical research into the effectiveness and the potential hazards of taking Maca root supplements is very scant.

Progesterone treatments.

An alternative view of the causes of menopause symptoms places more emphasis on the role of progesterone, and the imbalance between progesterone and estrogen. “Estrogen dominance” is a recently identified syndrome, and is believed by a small number of doctors to be the cause of severe PMS and menstrual problems in early adulthood, and a range of severe symptoms as menopause approaches. Advocates of progesterone treatments believe them to be free from the health risks and side effects associated with estrogen based treatments.

Natural progesterone cream

Natural progesterone creams usually contain extracts from Mexican wild yam, which contains a substance which is believed to be similar to the progesterone produced in the body. The creams are applied to the parts of the body where the skin is thinner, such as the breasts, inner thighs, inner forearms or stomach, and are believed to pass through the skin and circulate through the body. Many women have found natural progesterone creams to be very effective in treating menopause symptoms, but there is no evidence to show that the creams lower the risk of breast and uterine cancer, or are free from the risk of side effects as is sometimes claimed.

Chaste tree berry

Chaste tree berry, sometimes known as Chasteberry or Vitex agnus castus has been used since ancient Greek times to treat a range of ailments. It is believed to stimulate the production of progesterone, and has been shown to be very effective in alleviating severe PMS and a range of menopausal symptoms

Natural remedies for perimenopause and menopause symptoms.

If you are in the midst of experiencing menopause, the last thing you may think are the reasons for night sweats menopause. Just does not’t seem to matter when you feel like you never slept well in months and you’re so sick of washing sheets strong sweat could scream. However, it is very important to know the cause of your night sweats. And’sa safe bet that some sort of hormone imbalance.

Menopause is a normal phenomenon. Women are affected by the changes in your life, and one of these important changes is menopause. In most cases, between 45 and 55 years in a woman’s life is undergoing significant change, since time stops and the possibility of pregnancy is lost. A small percentage of women experience premature menopause and causes are smoking, living at high altitude, or lack of pregnancy. Anyway, women should see with premature menopause your doctor check for other health problems that could cause this.

To understand why women go into menopause, is one way to find the cause of the signs and symptoms. To begin with, this condition occurs when the female species have eggs in the ovaries functioning. Their menstrual periods reduces until it happens after 12 months. Estrogen levels drop, causing hormonal imbalance and other problems cropping up here and there in their bodies.

One of the main causes of early menopause, hypothyroidism. Thyromine works very well in these cases, as its ingredients L-Tyrosine, Guglipid, Adrenal Powder from Bovine, Piper longum extract and ginger extract to strengthen the team metabolism lower bad cholesterol, reduce levels of stress, optimize thyroid’s production of hormones and enhance immune system!

Another problem women face with the menopause and bladder issues is called a syndrome, urge incontinence. This happens when the muscles that control urination started to press when you are ready to cause leakage.

Tinnitus, is notorious symptoms of menopause may also contribute to feelings of dizziness. Constant ringing, whooshing, and chirping of the ears can disorient you. Combine this with many other symptoms such as migraine headaches, hot flashes and night sweats, and panic attacks and you have a formula for the unbalanced.

Resulting in excessive hair thinning during menopause, can be easily diagnosed, could also be one of the most stressful times of a woman’s life. In determining this type of hair loss, menopause may further complicate things. There are many changes going on inside a woman’s body as soon as she goes through this phase in my life. Identifying only one contributing factor may be difficult if this is a warning sign of much more serious condition. It is crucial for women to consult their doctor about their thinning hair before looking over-the-counter medicines as a potential treatment.

For the past around 3 months I’ve been getting hot flashes and I have never in my life before. They usually happen almost everyday sometimes twice a day. I can never tell by the conditions around me when I am going to have one. Sometimes I get them when i am doing semi straining psychical activity and sometimes when i just cover my self with a blanket so heat usually plays a big role in me getting them but it doesn’t necessarily have to be in hot temperature. Do i have some sort of hormonal imbalance and should i go see a doctor?

For women, the coming of menopause signals two things. First, it simply means an end to reproductive health and second, it marks the beginning of a more laid back lifestyle. With the kids all grown up, the menopausal woman can take things easy and pursue the activities that she put on hold when she had to cook and clean and prepare the children for school. Unfortunately, some (hopefully not most) women misinterpret the word “laidback” to mean “totally zero physical activity.” As a result, they neglect exercise and have to suffer the diseases brought about by increased cholesterol and triglyceride levels, high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes.

Fitness for menopause must not be underestimated. A better quality of life awaits women at twilight of their years who actually take time to care for their bodies and minds. The physical benefits of exercise are actually enough motivation to devote at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity on most days of the week and strength training twice a week on alternate days.

First, it minimizes the inconveniences felt during menopause such as irritability and hot flashes. Exercise improves mood, especially during this time when your hormones seem to go awry and you can’t make head or tail with what you’re feeling.

Regular physical activity also helps you stave off weight gain which is the precursor to all the conditions mentioned above. Exercise also strengthens bones, lowering your risk of fractures due to falls caused by brittle bones that naturally come with age. Exercise keeps your posture erect, too.

When you engage in regular fitness for menopause activities, you are also minimizing your risk of breast cancer– the bane of many women in this day and age. Walking 10,000 steps a day has been shown to benefit in this regard. Aside from breast cancer, other forms of cancer as well as heart and respiratory problems are minimized with a daily exercise activity. Finally, because exercise releases endorphins which are “feel good” hormones, your mood and your overall psychological outlook is enhanced.

Obviously, not all fitness for menopause exercises is right for you. You have to take into consideration your current fitness level and any preexisting medical condition you may have. If you have a history of joint or muscle injury, heart or lung conditions, are obese or overweight or are over 50 years old, you need to consult your doctor first who will give you guidelines on how much and what kinds of physical activity are actually beneficial for you. The kinds of exercises you can do to achieve your fitness for menopause goals are actually diverse. For aerobic activities on land, you could walk, jog or bike while on water, you can swim or do waterobics. You can do balance exercises on a stability ball or attain added flexibility through Yoga or Pilates programs. Strength training using light weights will also help strengthen your muscles and bones. You can just dance or manually cut the grasses in your front yard and you’d still stay fit. It doesn’t really matter what activity you do for as long as you do it consistently and sensibly.

If you are looking to greatly improve your body, I highly recommend that you buy Brazilian Butt Lift.

The first thing a woman going through menopause feels during an attack of hot flashes is an intense feeling of heat that comes suddenly. This is followed by a most unsavoury series of aggravating symptoms.

When this happens often, then sweating are the one thing a woman going through menopause prays could go away. But it could actually go away. Even if not entirely, it is quite possible to limit the extent of these flashes.

A. Herbal treatments:

These are known to be most effective and to come with almost no risk at all. Also known as alternative treatments, they are available with little commitment in terms of money. These herbs are useful in reducing the frequency of sweating, making the sweating milder and elimination other symptoms that come along sweating.

Since the cause of hot flashes is a low level in oestrogen, plant sourced oestrogen (otherwise called phytoestrogen) is useful in replenishing this vital hormone in the woman’s body during menopause.

There are other herbs that do not produce oestrogen. Their job is to boost the processes of the pituitary gland as well as the endocrine glands which produce natural hormones. This is an effective way of countering hormonal imbalances.

B. Drugs and surgery:

If you have the money and don’t mind the risk involved, try this alternative. The hormonal replacement therapy is the most used drug therapy during menopause. While working fast and effectively relieving hot flashes it is also proven as a cause to many types of cancer in woman. There are also other drugs meant to treat hot flashes. They include medication for blood pressure, for seizure and some mild sedatives.

The only reason that people use HRT is because they relieve your distress quickly. But their side effects are certainly long term and occasionally terminal.

C. Lifestyle change:

Discipline is not the easiest thing to teach, especially to a fifty year old who is already in menopause. But the truth is that discipline in lifestyle can be just about the only answer to a low cost and totally healthy living. Since it is established that hot flashes can be triggered by specific substances or behaviour, the object of this therapy is to note the possible cause. Make sure you keep recording the time, emotion and environment in which the hot flashes occur.

Once the pattern is established, you can now embark on a schedule that avoids the environment most likely to start off a hot flash.

It is important to consider cost implications and side effects associated to the choice of her treatment. Do not pursue the three treatments at a go and generally be patient with whichever treatment you choose. Menopause is going to be with you for quite some time. So, be patient with results.

The menopause is a normal physiological milestone that every normal woman in this world has to go through! Let us look at quick points to have menopause relief:

Cease Smoking: The risk of osteoporosis and cardiac disease gets increased during menopausal phase particularly when the woman is habituated to smoke.

Regular exercises: Physical activities are good for the body and help to relieve some of the troubles of menopause. Exercises such as stretching, cardio, muscle stretching, and weight bearing workout markedly improve symptoms. Holistic exercises such as yogasanas are reported to be very beneficial in menopause relief.

Breathing techniques: Pranayama is a special technique to breath in and out. Pace breathing is reported to reduce hot flashes and also to relax the body. This is practiced by taking a deep breath and exhaling slowly 5 seconds out and same time in and make sure that while practicing pranayama, we should use our diaphragm. Do practice this several times and perform this in a quiet, comfortable environment.

Give up smoking and drinking alcohol in any form. Alcohol probably induces hot flashes and is also very harmful for the bones and the heart. Add some additional calcium and Vitamin D as a regular diet as it helps preventing bone loss and osteoporosis, two of major problems during menopause.

Menopause relief can also be obtained eating leafy green vegetables, cow’s milk, and multivitamin supplements as to restore the hormonal imbalance. It is advised to take 1-1.5 gm calcium a day. Calcium supplements are absorbed best when consumed with meals.

Herbal remedies such as Black cohosh and Gingko are also among the ones to have menopause relief. They possess properties to reduce the severity and frequency of hot flashes. Other herbs include alfalfa, red clover, chaste tree, licorice, dong quai, and Ashoka and Lodra (Ayurvedic herbs).

One can also try bioidenticals hormone replacement therapy for menopause relief. They are reported to provide great relief in menstrual cramps and mood swings. Since bioidentical hormones are made up of natural sources similar to the body, it makes the risk of side effects such as strokes, breast cancers and cardiac diseases very low as compared to other therapies.

Change diet is also required for menopause relief. As menopause makes women to gain weight particularly in the form of fatty layers accumulation in the body, it is advised to eat less fatty foods, carbohydrates, canned/packed foods, liquor and caffeinated drink.

One can also have menopause relief by preventing bone loss. This can be done having Calcium and vitamin D intake in the diet. Go for calcium rich foods like fishes, leafy green vegetables, milk, walnuts, flaxseed meals etc. Kava is also the herb of choice for women who want to have menopause relief. It helps in reducing the severity of depression and anxiety. However, to start or undergo any supplement or therapy for menopause relief, one should consider health care provider and make a consultation.
